A rack is a framework, typically with rails, bars, hooks, or pegs, for holding or storing things. There are tons and different types of racks, every gym has a different one. The basic ones are: Squat Stands - These are two pieces that stand next to each other to hold up your barbell. An ideal one for portable workouts. Squat Rack - They come in different shapes and sizes but the most common ones consist of two vertical uprights connected with a horizontal pole. Some have safeties built in and some do not. A squat rack with adjustable safeties is always an ideal and best choice to have. Power Rack - A higher version of the squat rack. These consists of big metal rectangles with 2-inch holes up and down on each vertical side. The best thing is, power racks have safety pins on each side and J-hooks to hold the barbell. It is very versatile and hence can be used for bench press, overhead press, squat and many more. Smith machine - The smith machine is a type of plate-loaded machine that looks similar to that of a squat rack. The difference is there are rods that guide the path of the bar.
