The WaterRower Classic is made by hand from solid American black walnut. Black walnut can be a variety of colors, from rich brown to purple-black, just like other woods. The wood of each machine has been given a rich sheen and warmth by three hand-applied coats of Danish Oil. Wood has amazing engineering properties, the most notable of which is its ability to absorb sound and vibration, which contributes to the WaterRower's smooth and silent operation. Like every wood used in the construction of WaterRowers, black walnut is a premium hardwood that has exceptional longevity and dimensional stability. For ecological reasons, all of the wood we use comes from replenishable forests.

The S4 Monitor shows intensity in watts, Kcalories per hour, /500m (time per 500 meters), mph (mile per hour), watts per second, and m/s (meters per second). It shows the distance in meters, kilometers, and miles; heart rate (with an optional heart rate attachment); the number of strokes and their duration; and stroke rate.
